Reflection

The first attachment above is a letter regarding prospective applicants to the CSU East Bay Graduate Program in Educational Technology Leadership, A program I expect to be a part of beginning this Summer 2008. I am very motivated in creating sound pedagogy with relation to implementing technology effectively in low-socioecomic, urban schools. I want urban youth to be competitive in the job markets of tommorow, which, as the letter states, demands skilled information technology (IT) workers. Low income students do not have the resources to have a home computer or be connected to the internet. Without a clear grasp of how to effectively use those two resources those youth will be at a distinct disadvantage and I want to avoid that injustice. Speaking from experience, I was raised in a lower socioeconomic neighborhood but was given the opportunity to have a computer when I was in middle school and have been captivated by cutting edge technology ever since.

The final attachment is my typewritten notes on a Professional Learning Community (PLC) meeting at Allendale. I understand that the PLC meeting are a place where collegues share effective strategies and give recommendations based on their experience as to whether certain things work in the classroom, or don't work. This specific meeting I felt could have been more informative had it not been for other teachers arriving late and no one wanting to facilitate the meeting. The message I absorbed from my master teacher is that the PLC meetings are a place to vent your frustrations with the administration of the school. I felt that the meeting would have run a little smoother had it not been for that.
