Artifact 34 - Examples of How Career Pathways and Dual Credit Opp. are Communicated with Students

Building Trades examples of how career pathways and dual credit opp. are communicated with students

  • Building Trades students explain dual credit in Construction Technology at the Community College level to 8th & 9th grade students when they come to Carroll County High School to tour our shop and classroom.
  • Building Trades students explain dual credit in Construction Technology at the Community College level on career day to 6th & 7th grade students at their school.
  • Building Trades instructors work closely with administration and guidance to promote our Building Trades Program and encourage dual credit for all of our Building Trades Classes.
  • Once students are enrolled in Building Trades I, the instructor identifies student career pathways and facilitates enrollment in Construction Technology at Wytheville Community College.
  • Instructors monitor student performance in college classes, encourage attendance, and grade and reevaluate offerings if student needs change.

Artifact 35 - Document Collaboration w/ School Counselors/Career Coaches on Academic & Career Plans

Administration  

  • Carroll County Public School System has been very instrumental in building a unique relationship with our local community college. This partnership allows students to receive tuition-free college credits while enrolled in Carroll County Public schools.
  • Building Trades Instructors work closely with administration and guidance to promote our Building Trades Program and encourage dual credit for all students that meet college entrance requirements.
  • Carroll County Building Trades Instructors are also adjunct faculty with Wytheville Community College, allowing us to have a seamless conduit for information to our department dean, admissions counselors, and career coaches.
  • Wytheville admission counselors and career coaches come to Carroll County High School at the beginning of each semester to administer entrance evaluations and enroll students in their specific dual enrollment classes.
  • Wytheville admissions counselors and career coaches also enroll students in evening dual enrollment classes taught at the community college.
  • Carroll County Building Trades Instructors collaborate with other adjunct faculty of Construction Technology at Wytheville Community College to monitor student progress and success.
