Rationale for Teacher Classroom Webpage

Context

In my CI3750 class, one of our projects was to make a webpage for our future elementary classroom.  We used TaskStream to create the web page and we published it to the internet.  The address for my web page is:

On this page I added parent and student links, a calendar page listing events, a homework page, and photo gallery. I also created a media literacy page including a student survey on television. The media literacy page consists of research on television and children’s health and survey results from a sixth grade class from Mountain View Elementary School. A media literacy information content area provides links and what a person may learn from the sites.

Impact

This webpage is ideal for my classroom.  It will allow my students and their parents and/or guardians to access the internet and be able to find out their homework assignments, great websites to visit and a calendar of what is happening in the school.  This webpage will allow me to become a better teacher because I will be able to communicate easier with not only my students, but their parents as well.  It will keep them up to date on what is going on in the classroom and the school.  This webpage will help them to get in contact with me if they need to or to ask me a question or send me a message.

Alignment

I have met competencies IIB and IIC because I gave my classroom parents and students current websites for them to access information about topics in education.  I also researched the current media topic of the impact of television on children and gave websites and information for parents to read to learn more about the influence of television on their child.  Our instructor gave us an accurate and current website to begin our research (www.justhink.org).

I met competency IIE because I can use this web page to manage my students' homework.  If a student is absent, he/she can look at our classroom web page to see what we did that day. 

I met competency IVB when I gave my students in my internship classroom a survey about television.  This survey asks questions such as how many hours they spend watching television per day and how many television sets they have in their house.  I have a page created on my classroom web page that gives the results and a summary of this data.  It is important that I understand elementary age children and their involvement with media.

I met competency VA because I have created a web page that I will continue to use in my professional career.  I can subscribe to TaskStream each year and will be able to create additional web pages such as the Story Pictures web page I made.

I met competency VIA because I sent out media release forms with my students in my internship classroom so that I could get permission to photograph them.  I made my web page password protected so that it can be viewed with permission only. 

I met competency VIC because I included a media release form in Spanish for parents in my classroom who have English as a second language.
