In order to better serve all of our students, and especially those with learning or physical disabilities, the University Student Success Center (USSC) has acquired the following software.

The software is available for download by all students, staff, and faculty, on all TIU campuses on MyTIU: Technology: Download (at the bottom of the page).  Students, staff and faculty will be able to use the software for reading the following:

  •      Digital books available for students with a print disability, but not DRM-protected books from iBooks, Kindle and Nook
  •      Scanned documents, books, PDFs and web pages

        * Read Outloud isn't supporting OSX Maverick just yet, and OS 10.9 users have been running into some problems. When you try to open Read: Outloud after installation, you may get the following message: "Unable to find the Solo application". Download and open "ReadOutLoud (OSX Maverick)" below after you have downloaded the software from MyTIU..

How to create a searchable PDF when scanning on a Xerox (such as Faculty Services or Music):

  • Go to "Email options"
  • Look for "File format"
  • Under "(PDF) options" select "Searchable
  • Select "Searchable text" (instead of image-based).

How to create a searchable PDF on the library’s Simple Scan Station:

  • Select “Searchable PDF” and “high quality resolution

If you have any questions about the scanning process, please contact Rolfing Library staff member Becky Frank (rfrank@tiu.edu).  For more information about using the Read:OutLoud and Snap&Read software, please contact the Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities, Dr. Peter Wright (pwright@tiu.edu).  Thank you for your partnership and help in making text accessible to all TIU students.
