Conferences and workshops attended

Below is a list of the professional conferences and workshops that I have attended this year.

September 2010

It is the beginning of the year but to date I am scheduled for an MCAS alt training, my Diversity Council meeting, and of course, my online data course through TERC. This will be yet another busy year!

October 2010

Thus far I have attended the DESE MCAS training, had one session of NISL relevant to math achievement, and attended a one day session on Observing and Analyzing Teaching instructed by Dr. Saphier of RBT (research for better teaching). Tomorrow morning I am also booked for a Plato training. I wanted to attend a seminar on data but I was otherwise scheduled.

November 2010

Thus far the most meaningful growth I have undergone has been my work with the Diversity Council. To date we've analyzed literature from Noguera, Delpin, and Tatum. I a perfect world I would likely close the achievement gap in this country for all students of color. To this end, subgroup standardized testing data would not reveal such great disparity. Fostering the culturally competent classroom is more difficult than I could have imagined. Until privilege is realized, it won't happen.

December 2010

Between NISL and NU I haven't had much time for anything else. Often, I am so focused on obtaining growth and development I a barely have time to apply it at work. Sad really.

January 2011

I have decided to do some of projects for PD in a manner that will benefit my school as a whole. Another course I am taking for is Observing and Analyzing Teaching, by Research for Better Teaching. It's integral to assessing teaching in a truly within a truly analytical framework.

February 2011

I am currently still taking classes for work and personally. I am literally a full time student, trying to balance work. It is a tough challenge but I am I think I am up to it.

March 2011

I have one more month of O.A.T.s classes through work so my schedule will become easier to manage. NISL will last through June and of course Northeastern is an ongoing process. I am trying to determine an area of study for my dissertation based on the professional development and my job. I am debating on performance based curriculum.

April 2011

O.A.T.s is finally done. It was  long process of learning and evaluting best practices in teaching. I feel as if the content was meaningful to and for the the benefit of the district. I will be finished with NISL in June! I am looking forward to being able to focus on my primary job!
