Describe your goals for professional growth in the area of developing as a teacher leader...
Conferences and workshops attended:
September 2010
My biggest goal is the implementation of our PLC's. These professional learning communities truly develop all teachers at my school as leaders.
October 2010
Well, as per usual, attending all PLC's is virtually impossible for me. I am going to continue to plan on most of the meetings and will absolutely not miss any data meetings which happen twice monthly. Another example of great ideas until well September happens and school kicks in.
November 2010
So far I have discussed our data PLCs and will continue to update on the progress and findings. Much of our work falls under teachers as leaders as they are the ones making the collaborative inquiries amongst each other in our professional learning communities. Teachers are given the opportunities to foster change with in their own classrooms by investigating data and modifying based on data driven outcomes. We are fortunate in that we have "voice" as teachers. Educational autonomy is definitely one of our more innovative characteristics.
December 2010
Teacher leadership is becoming much more difficult as I am overwrought with committee membership and other affiliations. However, we have a very strong teacher leadership group in place whose role will become more pronounced as we forge into next semester.
January 2011
We are now beginning to change the dynamics of the meetings so as to instill more leadership. I believe we will have the potential to effect change and improve student achievement. More to come.
February 2011
The project this year was to foster PLC's for teachers. We have made great progress. We are working collaboratively to assess student and teacher work. The process is beneficial and has been well received.
Data analysis has been part of the process as well.
March 2011
This has been an extremely busy month for school. I have barely had to time to reflect. School, work, and more work.
April 2011
We are continuing with our professional development. We are now planning to hold workshops over the summer in order to train other teachers on curriculum mapping. It will be teachers leading teachers. I am looking forward to working with other teachers on curriculum development.
