Progress Towards My Master's Degree

Are you pursuing a Master's degree this year? If so, which degree are you pursuing? Perhaps you already hold a Master's degree. If that is the case, tell us a little bit about that academic program!

September 2010

I hold an M.Ed and have decided to pursue my Ed.D. I was admitted full status to NSU Nova Southeastern. I applied to two schools (Northeastern & Nova) but opted for the school that would honor my NISL work with 21 credits. That is very exciting. I also feel as if the Ed.D is more practitioner based and as such, it suits me. As far as Champion is concerned...well I am enrolled, through TERC, with an online data class. I am adjusting to the medium for learning though, as you know, I need constant redirection! This course will truly afford me the ability to implement data driven instruction. It is imperative to understand academic data in a manner such that, it drives instruction and improves achievement. I am not sure what drives me to stay busy. I should work on that...

October 2010

As happens every year, I am inundated with work. In addition to the NISL cohort, the TERC class and now I have been selected for an RBT cohort on observing and analyzing teaching. I started at Masters level and will likely have Masters +30 in no time. The part that keeps me going and on top of everything is simply that all the content is linked to teaching. There is an underlying cohesive theme to all that I am doing so I able to gain knowledge from my assignments; and to some degree, retain it.

November 2010

More exciting than the NISL doctoral credits was my acceptance Northeastern. I unenrolled at the other school and accepted at NU. Oh, and I joined another committee. Something regarding continuous improvement.

December 2010

As is such every year, I have transitioned into a full and very hectic schedule. Reporting, design teams, and meetings have me going endlessly. Whoever thought a career in education would be a nice abbreviated day was sadly mistaken.

January 2011

Nice and refreshed from a winter break. Or so I thought. I am currently taking two doctoral classes. I can assure those of you who are interested in obtaining your doctorate, believe what they tell you. Constant reading, writing and research. Theoretical frameworks and the articulation thereof is the name of the game. Not sure of what my plans are but I can say that I am inspired by Michelle Rhee. I did not base this solely on the depiction of her in "Waiting for Superman!"'

February 2011

Working full time as a student while trying to balance school. It is a huge challenge.

March 2011

It is time for MCAS. This is the time that being in the schools becomes a challenge. It is a tough time for teachers and students alike. If we can get through the month things will be great. Professional development and our team meetings are really becoming a more formalized process.

April 2011

Going into the Spring sememster at school. I enjoy being a student and feel as if I am growing even more professionally.
