Take Attendance

Taking attendance is an essential requirement for every teacher for every period. Typically my mentor teacher takes attendance shortly after the bell rings and the students take their seats, before he does a little refresher with students in regards to their class. I took attendance for a smaller CP class, with only ten students. My mentor teacher always has his site for attendance up for one of his tabs on his monitor. The school uses eSchoolPLUS. From his home page, titled "Teacher Access Center" I was able to click the chair symbol, which is how one takes attendance. I also used the student seating chart (which as available in my artifacts section below) to help identify which students were present for class. Once on the page for attendance, I checked one student absent, so I went down the "A" column and checked the box for that specific student. No students were tardy for the class, and then I submitted my attendance by hitting the save button, which is a floppy disk image.

Taking attendance for this class was extremely easy, as there are only ten students within this specific CP class. The site the school uses, eSchoolPLUS, is also fairly simple and easy to follow from the images and charts provided. I definitely think the reason for the simplicity and visual aids for attendance help keep taking attendance short and easy, perhaps so that it does not require a large amount of time or take away from teaching the class. One interesting note I thought was slightly ironic, and is certainly true for middle and high school, my mentor teacher suggested perhaps avoid using student images, which the school uploads and provides. My mentor teacher commented that students within this specific high school, and perhaps high schools around the country,  change physically so much as they get older, and they alter their physical features with changing make up or hair color that the images are in fact not that helpful. It was fun to play around with the site eSchoolPLUS to see the grade book, student information, and all classes that my instructor is teaching.
