Project 6 Smart Board Mini Teaching

Smart Board Mini Teaching
NY- New York State Standards
Subject: Mathematics, Science, and Technology (1996, 2005 Math update)
Learning Standard 5 : Technology
Students will apply technological knowledge and skills to design, construct, use, and evaluate products and systems to satisfy human and environmental needs.
Level: Elementary
Key Idea: Computer Technology 3:
Computers, as tools for design, modeling, information processing, communication, and system control, have greatly increased human productivity and knowledge.
Control the operation of a toy or household appliance by programming it to perform a task.
Execute a computer program, such as SimCity, Theme Park, or The Factory to model and simulate an environment.
Model and simulate a system using construction modeling software, such as The Incredible Machine.
Performance Indicator:
Use the computer as a tool for generating and drawing ideas.
Learning Standard 3: Mathematics (2005 update)
Students will:
•understand the concepts of and become proficient with the skills of mathematics;
•communicate and reason mathematically;
•become problem solvers by using appropriate tools and strategies;
through the integrated study of number sense and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, and statistics and probability.
Grade/Subject: Grade 3
Area: Process Strands
Strand: Representation Strand
Standard: Students will create and use representations to organize, record, and communicate mathematical ideas.
Performance Indicator: 3.R.1 Use verbal and written language, physical models, drawing charts, graphs, tables, symbols, and equations as representations.
Performance Indicator: 3.R.2 Share mental images of mathematical ideas and understandings.
Performance Indicator: 3.R.3 Recognize and use external mathematical representations.
Performance Indicator: 3.R.4 Use standard and nonstandard representations with accuracy and detail.

Annotation

1) This project was created by Darcy Barber, Caitlin Evans, and Mark Schaffhouse during the Spring 2011 semester at SUNY Cortland.
2)  The identified grade level is 3rd Grade.
3) The integration of Math, English Language Arts, and Technology are evident as the students navigate the technology, explore the mathematics, and communicate with their peers.
4)This overall goals of this type of project are designed to integrate SmartBoard technology into our teaching, to cultivate a positive and responsive disposition toward learning new media and to overcome the initial fear of technology.
5) A project such as this which utilizes mathematics and technology within the safe learning environment of the classroom encourages learners to use the resources available to them and can enable the learner to claim ownership of his or her learning.  The importance of creating excitement  in learning math, science, and technology are vital components of our 21st century lives.
6) The link to the product are found below as well as above this section.

7) There is a MS document as well as a PDF.
