Evolution - Teaching Perspective Notes

Rationale

Context:

Evolution-Teaching Perspective can be used to teach students about the controversial issue of evolution.  It was created at Appalachian State University under the advisement of Jeff Goodman, Elementary Education Block II instructor. I complete the Evolution-Teaching Perspective notes as a requirement for CI- 3543, Elementary Science Methods.

Evolution-Teaching Perspective is from my Science Journal that was completed during Elementary Education Block II.  It summarizes the Darwin Theory of Evolution.  The notes also provide the five key teaching aspects of science: science is guided by natural law, explain science through natural law, science is testable, tentative, and falsifiable.

Impact:

The Evolution-Teaching Perspective allows students to learn about Evolution using the basic Darwin Theory about adaptation. Students will understand that the Darwin Theory is populations have variations and organisms with beneficial variations adapt and survive better than the organisms without beneficial variations.  Students will also learn that science is guided by natural law.

Alignment:

This artifact aligns with the following DPI Standard:

Standard 3: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in science.

Indicator 4: The Evolution- Teaching Perspective notes from my Science Journal broaden my knowledge of the controversial issue of evolution.  The Elementary Science Method class and Science Journal taught me how to approach and teach students about evolution.
