My journey with Dr. Brown’s office started 4 years ago when I was a patient there. Dr. Brown did my second ACL replacement and my Patella Tendon repair. My time there sparked my interest in Sports Medicine. Flash-forward to present day, I am currently working as one of the Physical Therapy Aides that helped me get through my therapy.
My duties as a Physical Therapy Aide are to facilitate patients with their workout routines prescribed by the Physician and the Physical Therapist. We also are in charge of scheduling patients, taking their co pays and charting. Lastly we are in charge of general housekeeping of the office.
A lot of my responsibilities involve talking interacting with the patients. This is the part of the job I like the most. I truly enjoy interacting with the patients and helping them with their exercises. I have had customer service jobs before, and I just transfer the skills I have learned before to this job. Every time I go the office I make sure I have a smile on my face and I am being as encouraging and engaging with my patients as a I can be. I try and get to know them and let them get to know me so they will trust me when I am working with them. I can sympathize with them. I understand that sometimes need someone there to encourage you, and sometimes you need someone to push you. Physical therapy can be a hard road and people get discouraged sometimes if they don’t recover as fast as they would like, and we see that a lot. I try to keep them going and assure them that they will get there.
My days are sometimes long and I work a lot of hours there but I wouldn’t change it. In my two months I have already helped a handful of patients recover from their injuries. And I get the same proud feeling they do when I get to see them walk out the office and finish with Therapy. I even had one person tell me they love coming because they know every time I am going to have a smile on my face and laugh with them while we do their therapy. That is why I love this job, it is really rewarding.
