Faculty Communication and Outreach/Overview

Outreach and communication to faculty is critical to the success of the Library Learning Commons  as a change agent in the development, use and assessment of new and emerging learning environments. We deliver information to faculty about the tools, strategies and curricular approaches to enhance the quality of learning on campus,  through social networking, web site information, the Library Liaison Program,  and a Learning Commons Bulletin.

Faculty Outreach/Progress

Faculty response to our outreach efforts have been quite favorable, especially with the Library Liaison Program  the Bulletins that are printed in hard copy and made available on our web site. The Library Liaison Program  provides a platform for dialogue between the academic schools,  departments,   programs,  and the Library. This ongoing communication enhances the library's understanding of the academic support needed for the various programs and course related activities. The liaison program provides a more personalized level of service as it increases visibility of the Library Learning Commons faculty,  services, and resources. The Library Learning Commons Bulletin features stories that include information about, facility enhancements, academic partnerships, faculty and staff spotlights,  collections and databases, the art gallery exhibits, educational technology,  learning and assessment tools, and faculty and student concerns .

The Library Liaison Program

Our Liaison program serves as a critical platform from which we reach out to faculty.  We have liaisons assigned to the five schools of Mercy: Business, Education (2 liaisons), School of Natural and Health Sciences, School of Liberal Arts and School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (2 liaisons).  Liaisons attend school meetings, provide collection development, library instruction and consultation for faculty and students of the schools.  We continue to find ways to embed our relationshop with the schools by developing online tools and supporting special projects as they develop.
