Center for Academic Excellence - Mission Statement

 

The Center for Academic Excellence, composed of Learning Centers on Mercy College’s five campuses, is committed to helping students seize the opportunity to transform their lives through higher education.  Aligning its work with faculty and collaborating with other Academic Support Services, the Center offers high quality one-on-one and small group tutoring in writing, mathematics, science and other courses in support of student learning outcomes that help struggling students become competent students and competent students become outstanding students.

1.  In order for students to achieve academic success, provide highly effective services for all students who seek tutoring at the Center for Academic Excellence

Institutional Effectiveness: Criteria for Success

  • Research and develop a plan to provide appropriate capacity for tutoring services that include an appropriate number of staff to meet student need and convenient, flexible modalities to support student learning needs by December 2011. (As measured by direct observations by staff work)
  • Determine set of factors regarding how CAE will assess tutoring programs by December 2011; collect baseline data from January to May 2012. (As measured by direct observations by staff work)
  • Pilot a new program for tutoring services in the Spring 2012 semester. (As measured by direct observations by staff work)

2.  In order to make sure that current processes and procedures meet student, faculty and institutional needs, support a high degree of collaboration between Center for Academic Excellence and faculty
