It is of utmost importance to me to provide a culturally accepting environment as a teacher. Through my Cultural Diversity in Education course, I feel I have become more aware of the importance of cultural diversity and have learned a great deal about the issues surrounding groups of different backgrounds. In this course I was introduced to numerous backgrounds such as Biracial, Asian American, and Native American among others. Alongside a classmate, I was able to research the Asian culture and present the “Model Minority” stereotype to our class. I also had the privilege of listening to several guest speakers who offered their personal insight on the different issues surrounding their cultures. During this course I also had the opportunity to do service learning in a Native American school. I feel that this course made me a more well-rounded human being. It has better prepared me to embrace diversity as an educator.
