Disparate Images is a thoughtful and critically reexamining of my past, pondering the nature of childhood, memory, and nostalgia, and their relation to the self. Through a massive archive of family photos and other relics, I look at various aspects of my youth and compare the me of the past to the me of the present to see what's changed, and what's stayed the same. By creating a body of work that acts as a singular installation, rather than a series of discreet pieces, I hope to visually convey the distinctive characteristics of memory itself- how it acts imperfectly, obscuring some things while highlighting others. Memory isn't a complete picture. It acts as a series of snapshots hanging in mental space, void of context. The frequent juxtaposition of presence and absence in my work speaks to these nuances as well. Who I was and who I am now have been simultaneously there and gone for all of my life.
