New Classroom Management Strategies

New Classroom Management Strategies Implemented
Towards the end of my directed teaching, I implemented three new classroom management strategies to improve my classroom management. I went over rules with my students and had students model each behavior I was asking for. After establishing rules, I gave students periodic sticker rewards for demonstrating behaviors I was asking for (at unpredictable frequencies). To keep track of verbal warnings, I kept a note pad at my side at all times. I also posted new rules at the front of the classroom.

New Rules:
• Mrs. Conroy will not talk if all students’ eyes are not on her. She will wait, and deduct time wasted from student recess.
• “Give me five!” Command
When Mrs. Conroy tells the class “Give me five!,” they are to listen; put their eyes on me; sit up straight; have hands folded on desk; mouth quiet; and feet quiet.
• Behavior Check:
Stage 1) Verbal Warning/orally call student’s name and say “Warning” (kept note pad at my side at all times to keep track of verbal warnings)
Stage 2) Write student name on board.
Stage 3) Student must move to time out area for 2 minutes and stay after class 2 minutes to make up time lost. Add 2 minute increments as needed.

Reflection:
The first day that I used the new system, I was able to keep my students quiet and listening through 10 student oral presentations on social studies projects.
