During Winter Quarter, 2006, I had the opportunity to present a whole class lesson on identifying character traits to a 5th grade class at Roosevelt Elementary School in San Gabriel Unified School District. I shared a poem I had written about a peach fight I had with my brother when I was young. Students explored identifying character traits in the poem using text as support. We celebrated the completion of the lesson by eating peaches.

It was an exhilarating experience seeing the students become so engaged in learning through real-life connections that they could easily relate to - having siblings and eating peaches!
