For this assignment, I created a special interest group for the middle school level.  It is important that children this age receive extra guidance because they are going through various changes and are becoming more aware of their surroundings.  I designed the Culture Club explained below to better meet the needs of the adolescent population.  You will find an introductory flyer attachment below and a sample schedule of activities on the link above.

My Proposal

I would like to create a special interest group called the Culture Club.  This group would focus on cultural diversity among students at the junior high level.  I would introduce the youth to various cultures by the use of resources like field trips, guest speakers, and informative videos.  The topics the club would focus on would be the history of different cultures, changes over time, traditions of cultures, the specific holidays cultures celebrate, different languages, and how certain cultures are viewed in society today.  It is important for students to become aware of specific cultures, especially if they are not surrounded by them on a daily basis.  This informative club can help prevent prejudices and discrimination that exist in the school environment.  I feel every school needs a type of Culture Club, which gives students an opportunity to hear about other heritages besides their own.
