Substance Abuse Lesson Plan

NC- North Carolina DPI Elementary Education Specialty Area Standards
Standard: Standard 5: Elementary teachers have an understanding of the major concepts of healthful living.
Indicator: Indicator 1: Teachers understand the foundations of good heath and help students understand the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Standard: Standard 13: Working alone, or with healthful living specialists, elementary teachers create opportunities for student development and practice of skills that contribute to good health.

Rationale for DPI for Substance Abuse Lesson Plan:

Context-

The substance abuse lesson plan was designed for a first grade class.  It demonstrates my understanding of the health curriculum through the use of a six point lesson plan format.

Impact-

When I begin to teach, I will be able to align the curriculum for any grade level (K-12) in order to create lesson plans that use the six point format.  I will be able to include teacher input, guided practice, and independent practice into the lessons.

Alignment-

I have met DPI standard 5, indicator 1 because the health lesson I created exhibits an understanding of good health and the long terms effects of a healthy lifestyle.

I have met DPI standard 13 because the health lesson created and practiced skills that contribute to good health.
