Math Probability Lessons
Math Lessons
Rationale
Context:
Using the curriculum from the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for third grade Mathematics I constructed three lessons about probability skills. The lessons involved teaching the students about probability and how to interpret it from a graph and tally sheet. The lessons also focused on finding the probability in games and deciding if the probability is far or not. Portions of these lessons were taught to a third grade class at Mountain View Elementary in Ashe County.
Impact:
My students gained from this experience a basic knowledge of probability. They now know how to record data and analyze it. After this lesson thay are also able to graph data and use it for answering questions. Students are also able to work in cooperative groups and take roles within the groups.
When I teach in my future classroom I can use these lessons to help with the teaching of probability. These lessons would also be helpful in integrating graphing and analysis of data. I will use this experience in my future classroom to help with my classroom management and planning.
Alignment:
I met NCDPI standard two indicator four by furthering my knowledge of data, probability and graphing through the research done to compose my lesson and teaching of my lesson.
I met NCDPI standard nine indicator five by having my students organize and record data, represent this data on a graph and translate the graph to solve mathematical problems.
