Rationale for Lab Safety Survey
Context
I completed this assignment during Block II as a requirement for my CI 3543 Science Methods in the Elementary Classroom course. I was required to conduct a safety survey to assess student safety in a first grade classroom at Mountain View Elementary School in Ashe County, North Carolina.
Impact
As a teacher, I can use this information to ensure that both my students and myself are safe within my classroom/school. My students will be able to learn how safety precautions are a very important part of the school day, and how they can safely use the equipment/supplies within the classroom/school. They will also be able to use this information as a tool for what they need to do within an emergency situation.
Alignment
I met standard 17, indicator 1 through showing that I am aware of the safety and liability issues within the classroom/school and by using me awarness of these issues to enforce the practices within my classroom.
I met standard 17, indicator 2 by asking my teacher to inform me of where the the chemicals and associated MSDS sheets were located within the classroom/school.
I met standard 17, indicator 3 through my research of the science Safety Laws, Codes, and Standards for my school and/or school district.
I met standard 17, indicator 4 through my knowledge of what to do and how to manage the students within emergency drills such as fire drills.
I met standard 17, indicator 5 through my knowledge of the required drills for the emergency situation plans of the school.
