A good classroom arrangement is essential for effective classroom management. To create a good classroom layout there are six components that need to be addressed. Good visibility for the teacher and students, accountability of the students from the teacher, student to student and student to teacher communication, understandability of the classroom, usability of supplies and areas, and movability around the classroom. I have created an ideal kindergarten classroom layout that addresses all of these components.
¶ Visibility
§ In my classroom, I will be able to see my students at all times. For the calendar board and the white board, students will come to the rug in front to see.
¶ Accountability
§ My room arrangement allows me to easily monitor my students because of the round tables. The tables are in the middle of the room, so I can stand anywhere near the tables to keep my students on task.
¶ Communicability
§ Round tables allow students to have equal share of the table and equal opportunity to interact with fellow students. My room arrangement allows me to have good communication with my students because I can easily move around the desks to help with questions.
¶ Understandability
§ The message that my classroom portrays is motivation because of all the colors, choice oriented because of the variety of centers, and most importantly it portrays a desire to learn by the options and curiosity that will arise from the different sections in the room.
¶ Usability
§ The usability of my room is very effective because there are circle tables with the supply box in the middle. In the supply box are pencils, crayons, scissors, and glue sticks. The students have equal supplies and equal opportunities to get them. The drinking fountain and sink are very accessible to students. The storage unit is accessible to me, but out of the way of the learning.
¶ Movability
§ Movability in my classroom is effective because of the round tables. It allows my students, as well as me to move to each table quickly and easily. Each student has their own equal section of the round table for individual work, and there will be 4-6 students at each round table to allow group work.
