Social Studies lesson plan Landforms

Rationale

Context:  This lesson plan was created during the Fall semester 2005 in my Social Studies class.  I connected the lesson with the North Carolina state standards as well the National Council for Social Studies Standards.  I used Microsoft publisher to create the lesson and PowerPoint to create the introductory assessment.

Impact:  I would use this lesson to teach about the landforms found on our earth.  The landforms discussed are Mountains, Hills, Valleys, Plateaus, Plains and Deserts. Students would learn about social studies, science, geography, language arts and technology--how to use a digital camera.

Alignment:

  • NCDPI Standard 10:  I have met this standard by providing students with inquiry based learning activities that incorporate questioning skills, processing skills, measuring, inferring, interpreting and analyzing.
  • NCDPI Standard 11, Indicator 5:  This standard was met by allowing students to use what they learned about the landform and properly build and display the various types.  Students will use a variety of tools and materials to represent the data necessary to distinguish between the different types of landforms.
