Throughout my time at Florida International University, I have been given the chance to observe both professors that teach in the University and music teachers that are employed by Miami Dade County area.
In the attachement at the bottom of the page, you'll find that there are observations in everything ranging from an elementary orchestra, to genral music class, and also a high school Jazz band. As you'll read in my description of the observations, I feel like I saw a " non example" of what and how a teacher should teach. Not being entirely the teachers' fault, but still realizing that it all comes down to the attitude you portray as a teacher to your students.
You will also find a sample lesson plan in a "Music Tech" class setting. Since I have a degree in Music Business, I have a deep passion for teaching concepts of the Music Business, in trying to build a strong supporting foundation for students to rely on once they enter the "Music Business". The lesson plan is entitled "Mic Placement/ Selection", and it is geared toward educating students which microphones are suitable for certain occasions, and where they should be placed in relation to their sound source.
I have also included a sample video of me teaching this lesson to a group of students who are new to this class subject.
Now, since I've indulged myself in commercial and popular music, I can handle accompanying myself singing when playing any instrument.
In the "Tears in Heaven" attachment, that is exactly what I've prepared for you. A brief sample of the Eric Clapton song, arranged for piano.
In the last attachment, I took the time in giving a lesson to a neighbor's son, who wants to start learning how to play music. Well, he isn't going to play anything in the video, but I've managed to educate him in the basics of singing. Therefore including posture and breath support in the lesson. I picked to teach him voice instead of any other instrument, because voice is the only instrument that does not require a purchase to be made. And also when considering his motive for wanting to do the lesson, I wanted to show him a quality of him that he never knew existed..., that exists in all of us;m the ability to sing.
