In Education for Employment at Hayfield Secondary, students are offered three industry certifications in the respective order given, based on what certifications students have achieved in their previous CTE courses. The program is very fortunate that
1. CareerSafe online safety course- 5 hour online program that addresses the need for safety training of young workers in order to prevent injury to self and others in the workplace. Research from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health indicate frightening statistics—every five days, one teenage is killed on the job. That accounts for approximately 70 work-related deaths among teens each year. Additionally 200,000 young people are injured on the job with 70,000 of these young workers requiring emergency room treatment. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the statement that “younger workers continue to have the highest rate of work-related deaths, injuries, and illnesses.”
After each module the students must successfully pass a brief assessment with 70% accuracy to move on to the next module. This safety credentialing allows young workers to develop a workplace safety mindset and gain marketable skills for employment and job advancement.
2. Customer Service Certification- FCPS teamed with the National Retail Federation (NRF) to offer our students educational training based on national skill standards that reflects what retailers across the
