Lorax lesson plan

Context:

I taught problem solving steps to third graders using the Lorax movie.  I went over the steps to problem solving. The students watched the movie and looked for the problem, how it was solved, and how they would solve it.  We talked about the movie after and we went through the steps.  The problem was pollution and how to solve it.

Impact:

I can use good books that are made into movies to make a topic easier to understand when the students have an example.  The problem of pollution is going on today in the world and it is an issue that needs to be talked about with students.  I can get the students to learn the skill of problem solving using it in every day siuations.  I can also let the students know the problems we now have in the world leading to another discussion.

Alignment:

I met Standard 14, Indicator 3, by guiding the students using the problem solving steps to solve problems they have every day and major topics such as pollution.  Pollution is a topic that many people have different opinions on and I opened up that discussion using the movie.
