Hello, my name is Erinne Jewell and my major is Elementary Education. I am a Junior transfer student from Delaware Technical & Community College, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2014. I want to be a teacher because my passion is children. After my mother had my little brother when I was 12 years old, I spent a lot of time with him, which made me realize how much I cared for children. My Senior year project in high school involved me teaching a class of students about recycling. Since then, I have worked as a camp counselor, a substitute teacher, an afterschool teacher, and currently a school site coordinator for the YMCA. My mind is constantly going through ways to make my site better for my students and my coworkers. My eventual goal is to recieve my Doctorate in education and go from teacher, to school principle, and then become a college professor to teach future educators. I was extremely influenced by my advisor at Delaware Tech, Dr. Timothy Mello. He has made me the student and teacher that I am today and has only made my passion for children grow.

What is Instructional Technology?

Integrating Educational Technology - District Level

Integrating educational technology refers to the process of matching digital tools and methods to given educational needs and problems. School districts are responsible for making sure that all schools in their district have what technology is needed for a teacher to be able to his/her job.

Educational Technology - School Level

Educational technology is a combination of the processes and tools involved in addressing educational needs and problems, with an emphasis on applying the most current digital and information tools. The schools must make sure that teachers are equipped with the best possible technology that needs to be used in their classroom, making sure it is age appropriate, as well as developmentally appropriate.

Instructional Technology - Classroom Level

Instructional technology is the subset of educational technology that deals directly with teaching and learning applications. Teachers must choose whether they can appropriately use technology given in their classroom and must be able to use the technology efficiently.

My initial expectations for this class were that we were going to learn about how  to use different technology. However, this course isn't really about that. We've been learning a lot about different technology and how we can use them in our classroom. We don't have to use all of the technology that we learn, but there are so many different choices for teachers to choose to use in the classroom so teachers can choose what is easiest and most relevant for them.
