As a relatively new program, the Labor Studies program is not as well known on campus as other interdisciplinary programs. There is a need to increase the visibility among students. This will help to increase the number of majors and minors and raise awareness of Labor justice related themes.

      Actions include:

      i. Continue to organize informal gatherings for majors and minors, including Fair Trade Friday conversations, Ice Cream socials, and consultations with students.

      ii. Sponsor and co-sponsor Labor related campus events, including an annual lecture.

      iii. Organize meetings of Labor Studies Advisory Committee every semester.

      iv. Engage more faculty and Department chairs, including the School of Business, in planning and evaluating the program.

      v. Develop a social media presence, including a Twitter account.

Internships, field trips, and other high-impact learning experiences are important tools to achieve the goals of Labor Studies program. There is a need to strengthen these contacts and opportunities for students.

      Actions include:

      i. Work with the Center for Career Development and Campus Ministry and Social Action to develop a more comprehensive list of opportunities for internships and service learning.

Undertake a review of the Labor Studies curriculum.

      i. Undertake a self-study and external review of the Labor Studies curriculum.

      ii. Evaluate in collaboration with other interdisciplinary programs senior seminars.

      iii. Evaluate the future of Labor Studies and its relationship to Peace Studies.

Expected Results: A rubric will be developed in the Fall 2017 by the incoming Director of Labor Studies.
