Education has been my focus all of my life. My professional educational experience comes from a variety of sources, as I have been able to work with, learn from, and reflect on the practices of three Delaware schools districts and five Delaware schools.
My experiences have reinforced my primary interest of improving student performance. In addition, I am a life-long learner; I want to obtain knowledge from my superiors and am receptive to others, mindsets and leadership styles. I feel one way of improving my instructional strategies is through the current teacher evaluation system. That system, combined with the experience of working with talented teachers in each of the five schools, has broadened my skill set tremendously. Working in the various districts has also taught me the value of collective management.
A productive school community is built around a common goal; that goal is then enacted through teacher buy-in. These achievements become part of the culture of the building. I am a person who is dedicated to forming this kind of action plan. Through planning, collaboration, and evaluation and reevaluation of an action plan, we can improve the students’ academics and the school’s culture and climate by creating a unified, productive school community that involves all stakeholders. I want to be a part of such a partnership dedicated to building an effective school.
My primary objective remains improving student achievement; however, the development of an effective school ethos through consistent discipline, collective management, effective utilization of expert staff, and community involvement is a major contributor to student achievement and therefore, also an important part of my objective as a teacher.
