The UED uses multiple criteria and assessments to admit both undergraduate and graduate students into the Urban Teacher Program. To be admitted into the UTP, candidates must:

Prospective teacher candidates can also access the Admission Requirements by clicking on the How to Enroll menu button when they visit individual program pages from the UED homepage.

Each of the UED graduate programs has its own How to Enroll page which explains the University and Program admission requirements and process as can be seen in this example for graduate students seeking admission to the Communication Arts & Literature licensure program.

UTP Student Handbook
The UTP Student Handbook also details the UED admission requirements and process. The Handbook is available online and describes the undergraduate and graduate program admission requirements. A link to the Handbook is available to prospective students from our Resources page of UED’s website (see screenshot on left in Figure 18.5). Additionally, the UTP Student Handbook is also hyperlinked at the top of home page of TaskStream (see screenshot on right of Figure 18.5) when candidates log into their accounts.

In particular, Section III (Seeking Admission to the UTP) of the UTP Student Handbook describes the program admission criteria. Additional information on undergraduate and graduate admission requirements and forms can be accessed by clicking on the sub-sections in the left menu bar.

Admission Orientation Sessions in EDU 200 and Guide to Admission Handout
Program admission requirements are printed as Program Fact Sheets that are handed out to prospective teacher candidates seeking information about the programs as well as to students enrolled in the Introduction to Urban Education and Reflective Teaching (EDU 200) course. The UED Academic Advisor and the Director of Field Experiences conduct an orientation for new students in the course during which the requirements for admission are discussed based on the “UED Guide to Admission” handout. During the orientation, newly admitted students are given an orientation packet which contains university/UED Directory, Program Factsheets, Advising Logs, Transcripts & DARS, Standards of Professional Conduct, and Field Experience information among others.
