Introduction

The creation of this Content Area Reading (CAR) Unit will demonstrated your knowledge and ability to integrate a wide variety of CAR strategies into a new unit of study.  Both the unit formation and instructional strategies address the cognitive, social, and behavioral needs of a diverse student population. Higher Order thinking activities and consideration of learning styles support the high intellectual potential of all students is stressed, as you, the teacher, design and scaffold the instructional content.

Unit Title

Choose a descriptive title for your unit.

Time Allotment (Number of Days)

How long is each class period and how many days will the unit last (at least 5 days, not to include a review or test day)?

Course Title and Grade Level

Describe the students for which your unit is planned (grade, ability level, special situations).

Rationale for Unit

Why is it important that students learn the topics and skills included in this unit?  How does it relate to previous learning and prepare students for future learning?  How does it relate to their lives?

Overall Unit Goals

List your overall goals for the unit.  Specific behavioral objectives should be included in each daily plan.

Standards Met

List the national, state, and local content standards that are met by the activities in your unit.
