I did my internship at Mountain View Elementary in Jefferson, NC. We started going on January 25th part time until March 28th when we began going full time. Our last day of internship was April 28th. I was placed in Ms. Treadway's sixth grade classroom. Ms. Treadway is in charge of teaching reading, language arts and social studies. My duties in the classroom included: grading papers, helping the students while they were in groups, and assisting the teacher. Projects I completed while in the classroom included: teaching a unit consisting of five social studies lessons, teaching a series of three math lessons, conducting a case study on a particular math student, teaching an engaging science lesson, teaching my story pictures lesson, conducting a reading assessment, and teaching a lesson on the Winter Olympics to satisfy my midterm requirement.
I had a great time in my internship. I feel I learned so much from working with this age group. I know I was the one teaching them, but they taught me a few things, too, on how to be a more effective teacher. They taught me to be sure to make things interesting so they will want to learn it. Sixth grade is something I will never forget!
