I view being a future educator partially as having the opportunity to always be learning.  This semester has allowed me to become interested in learning about several different cultures.  I have always looked at people from various races as being different, but I was consciously ignorant of those differences.  I have always wanted to learn about different cultures, and now that I have, I have come to the realization that it is an eye-opening experience.  My Cultural Diversity in Education class has taught me to learn about and value differences.  During this class I have learned about white and male privilege, I have researched Language Acquisition with a group and presented the information to the class, and I have watched videos with characters that play a part in opening the world’s eye to diversity.  I have also completed 20 hours of service learning at a Title 1 school.  We have listened to several inspirational speakers from different cultures in class, panels and workshops. One of the most important things we learned in this class was the importance of educators having a multicultural curriculum and towards the end of the semester we developed our philosophy on diversity in the classroom.  Cultural Diversity in Education is a great class that will open the eyes of any student from any culture.
