I created this activity for 3^rd graders to enforce memorization of events in a story.  I want to make sure that children can remember the sequence of events.  This activity requires them to place eight events from a story into the correct order.  I would read the story, My Dog and the Birthday Mystery, and then discuss it with my students.  Afterwards, I would hand out this worksheet making sure to explain the instructions clearly.  I believe that this activity makes children realize that they will not always have a list or assignment in front of them, and that they need to retain in their memory instructions and order of events.  I believe this activity strengthens their ability to do this.
