Technology is widely used in our society.  It is a strong resource for educators and is becoming more advanced daily.  Teachers can incorporate technology into the classroom for lessons, assignments, presentations, and hands-on activities.  I am taking various computer courses to better prepare myself with the knowledge I will need to employ technology into my future classroom.  Read the information below to understand more about the classes I have taken and feel free to click on the links above to view assignments I have done in them.

<font color=purple>Computer Usage and Applications

mister_pc_winking_sm_clr.gif This exciting course introduced me to the wonderful world of Microsoft Office XP.  I became proficient in Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.  I completed twelve lessons out of the Shelly Cashman Series, helping me realize the numerous benefits this software can offer me as a student and as a future educator.  The part of the class I enjoyed most was learning various keyboard shortcuts because that is a more efficient way of accomplishing frequent tasks.  I know that this class is only the beginning of preparing myself with computer skills I need for the future.

t_header.jpg In this month-long course, I spent quality time working on my teacher education portfolio.  I learned how to use HTML to add more colors and styles to my pages.  I improved the graphics and the design of my portfolio to make it more visually-appealing to the viewer.  I also took some time to review my past work and reflective captions to decide what to change or remove from my collection.  I improved my home page and other sections to express my individuality and to show my newly found skills and knowledge.  I enjoyed the opportunity I had to work on and update my portfolio, so it will be ready to showcase my best work.

<font color=purple>Internet/World Wide Web/FrontPage

In this course, I learned information about the World Wide Web by using Internet Explorer 6 and FrontPage 2003.  I came to understand various ways to search for information online, like pictures, current events, maps, and definitions.  The internet offers many other services such as bookmarking and file transfers that can be useful as well.  I learned the differences between Outlook and Outlook Express and the unique features they offer.  These programs can assist teachers in communicating effectively with parents, students, and faculty members.  In FrontPage, I was taught HTML and how to create and design web pages.  I think that having a class web page is an excellent way to keep students and parents informed of what is occurring in the classroom.

<font color=purple>PowerPoint

<font color=purple>Publisher

This has been my favorite technology course so far!  Here I was shown the benefits of using Microsoft Publisher to create wonderfully-looking documents.  I have learned how to make documents more appealing, organized, and creative.  After completing seven lessons, I designed various real-life applications that I can use in my future classroom.  Some of the projects I created were a classroom newsletter, personal letterhead, class calendar, and math club flyer.  I am excited to have this new knowledge to apply to current assignments, as well as when I am an educator in the near future.

During this course I came to understand Microsoft Windows XP more in depth.  I learned how to organize files and documents to easily locate them for future uses.  I was taught how to make the computer accessible for students with special needs.  I also learned shortcuts and tips for completing tasks faster and more effectively.  In this course I located and read a professional journal about technology.  I came to understand the growing field of computers in the classroom and wrote a paper discussing my feelings toward the topic presented in the article.  I also learned about WebQuests and designed one for use in my future classroom.  This course has made me feel more comfortable using computers, as I have come to better understand the features of a desktop.
