Interactive Math Websites

Picture1.jpg

In this class I learned about the importance of incorporating computers into class lessons.  There are a variety of websites that have creative manipulatives for students to use.  These should be used a supplements to the lessons or as reviews.  These sites should rarely be used as the actual lesson.  I also learned that teachers need to look at what their students are doing online to make sure they stay on task.  Computers can be beneficial in the classroom if used correctly.  Please click the links below to travel to sites full of creative mathematical activities.

Algorithms and Base-Ten Blocks

This website uses base-ten blocks to show and teach subtraction, addition, division, multiplication, and algebra.  These can also become great worksheets.

Base-Ten Blocks

This site will help younger students to realize the importance of place values and regrouping.

National Library for Virtual Manipulatives

This website contains activities for grades Pre-K through twelfth.  It has great visuals that bring the math concepts alive.  There is also a section where teachers can view how a lesson fulfills standards.

NCTM Interactive Tools

This site shows the standards for math, and then the teacher can locate the correct math activity for each one.  There are some unique activities at this page compared to other ones I have come across.

Math for Everyone

This math site is excellent!  It is full of a web links to a variety of math games and activities.  It also has printable lesson plans, math challenges, and other resources.

Math Models

This animated site goes through the process of specific math problems.  This is a great way to show step-by-step ways to accomplish various problems.

Math Playground

This site contains math activities for K-6th grade.  There are a variety of interactive learning activities with different interests being represented for all different cognitive levels.

Shodor Interactive Site

This website is full of different types of lessons that enhance math through the use of technology.  It has activities that strengthen a child’s development in various areas, such as measurement, algebra, probability, and operations.
