Communication Plan
In my first year of teaching, I will be focusing on how to communicate with the students, and their guardians, and the community that surrounds us. I will set up a communication plan that will include my co-workers, principal, counselor, and the other schools that encompass our parish. Going to school board meetings is very critical. This is the time and place to bring up matters that are important to the community.
Upon enrollment, I will be going over our internet safety rules and the consequences, and have the student and guardian both sign the agreement form. Give out my business cards. This way guardian will have all of my contact information, from day one. Guardians and teachers alike will be well served to seek out opportunities to communicate with one another on a regular basis to ensure that all students have their physical, emotional and intellectual needs met. New technologies have made communication between home and school more efficient, and improved in both quantity and quality. When gaurdians and teachers communicate with one another, they are able to work towards their common goal of facilitating the best educational experience possible for students. Although research shows that parental engagement in education has increased over the past 25 years, engaging parents continues to be a hurdle for many schools (MetLife, 2012).
My classroom will be student centered using technology. My students will be in actually coming up with their on assignments, after I have given them a wide topic from which to choose. This technique allows students to be in charge of their lesson. The role of teacher vs students, will have been shifted. I will be using different types of tools and application to assess the students’ progress. Students will be able to receive feedback in real time. This allows me to give one-on-one instruction if necessary.
As we all know, technology sometimes will become faulty, such as having the server go down, not enough computers for every student. This is where plan B comes into play. I have an old school telephone; it requires having a telephone cord and batteries, it does not require Wi-Fi. I keep one for myself, just in case the electric goes out at home. In my classroom, we will be implementing the BYOD syndrome. Bring your own device. In using this type of technique, students are not bound to a wired device. They are able to access their lesson from anywhere.
I have a website that students can access; the website will contain e-mail links, alternative methods of communications, due dates for lessons. Critical links to help with students assignments. http://www.findingkinksforyourresources.com/ .
Students will be able to better focus on the assignment at hand, because they will be excited about learning. I will be more able to concentrate on other important issues at hand like giving formative and summative assessments. I know that all students learn differently. Visual, audio, and kinetic. By suing various types of tools and applications, such as Brain Child.com, spelling city.com, leap achiever, odsseyware. lanschool, discovery education, and even schoolhouse rock for school, and skype. Your child, will be globally connected. He or she can have E-pals in different parts of the world, by using a web application called http://www.systranet.com/web your child will be able to translate what their e-pal is saying. With technology being so advance, my students, your child, will be able to conquer the highest of mountains.
