Integrating Instructional Technology of the Comprehensive Classroom Technology Plan.
There are several ways to integrate the use of technology in a classroom. This can accomplished by using different tools, and apps. In most cases schools district will purchase certain applications. Lanschool is an app that lets teachers have access over the computers in his or her classroom. Teachers can use this feature to send messages to a student’s monitor who may be struggling with their lesson. They also have the capability to blank out screens, if the student is not following the internet safety rules, or browsing inappropriate websites. The teacher can also teach lessons, by putting the lesson on his or her computer, and have all of the students view the lesson on their individual computers. This also helps free up the teachers time. Though, students need the present of a teacher physical appearance at times, by using Lanschool the teacher can spend less time walking around the classroom, and spend more time focusing on other impertinent matters. This application also helps to deter behavioral issues as well.
The smartboard is another tool that can help enhance instruction in the classroom. They do not call it a smartboard for nothing! This tool has so many capabilities, interactive resources, engaging students, in a ways that are unsurmountable. Students that have vision problems will be able to see, from any seat in the classroom, if the student needs to be closer, just change the seating arrangements. For students who have audio problems, that can be fixed as well the smartboard has a build in volume controller. What really makes smartboards such an enhancement is when the teacher uses a laptop or computer in conjunction with the smartboard. When teaching a lesson, this tool is the perfect application to use. Students can be taught as an entire class. While the teacher is showing the lesson on the smartboard, he or she can easily move around in the classroom to see if their students are taking notes, or if they are just using audio for learning purposes. We must remember that all students learn differently. Visual, audio, or kinetics. When using the smartboard, all three can be achieved.
Spelling city.com is the perfect website to use, simultaneously with the smartboard. Spellingcity.com is a program that allows students to become accelerated readers. As an educator you may see little ripples of water at first, by the time the school years is over, your students will be riding the big waves. This site uses any word that you as a teacher wants to. You create your valcabublay list, or you can choose one from the dolch-sight words, or from other teachers who have created their own list, and have provided their word lists for any educator to access. This is at your fingers tips, just click, and go. Spelling city is a versatile tool; it has a build in attendance program, where you are able to keep track of how long a student is logged on the site. It gives you percentages of the classroom as a whole, or for individual students. The site even grades the students’ tests. Do not be fooled by the name, spelling city is applicable, for any grade level, and any subject. The best part of using spelling city is that every word that you put on your list is applied to each game that the students play. Parents have their own login, this way they are able to see what their child needs to work on, or help assist their child. You, your students and guardians will be impressed with how much this website improves our special needs students learning skills. Instead of being excluded, they can be included.
Discovery Education .com can be used for any grade level, or any subject as well. This site has a warm-up session that, that will gets your students juices flowing. From the warm-up session, student will be able to start a dialogue, which open the door for questions to be asked. “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questions” Albert Einstein.
The key to learning is when students can formulate their own question. Then through the process of research, they will be able to answer their own questions. This is how they become critical thinkers, and global citizens. Those days are gone when we as educators, just think that a letter grade constitutes a person’s worth. Though we still live in a society, where letters are important. We now base our students’ knowledge on more than just letter grades. Discovery education website opens doors, for our new digital natives. Experiments are part of the curriculum, with makes for student engagement. Inquiring minds wants to know, discovery education.com allows teachers to lessen the workload. Which is endearing to all educators, by freeing up time, teacher can participate with the students. The lesson plans come with phonics, and definitions so students will be speaking correct English, a Blessing to any teachers’ ears. The final tool that I want to introduce is Skype, when using all of the above tools and websites. Your students can share what they have learned with students in other countries, all over the world. E-Pal is a great way to become global citizens. By using skype, students can share, in real time. Using www.systransoft.htm, will come in handy, for translations purposes. Which even furthers the enhancement of their lesson.
In conclusion, any type of tool used in conjunction, with any application, will benefit students’, guardians, and teachers alike.
