Student Learning Outcomes

Goal 1: Psychology majors will learn substantive knowledge in the fundamental areas of psychology. 

1.A Graduating seniors will be able to demonstrate knowledge of common areas in psychology as compared to a discipline-based standard.

Goal 2: Psychology majors will demonstrate an understanding of psychological methodology. 

2.A Graduating seniors will demonstrate that they are familiar with the methodology of psychology and are prepared to undertake research using this methodology.

2.B Graduating students will demonstrate their ability to utilize the research methodology in psychology.

Goal 3: Graduating seniors should be able to apply the principles of psychology in real-life settings and be prepared for careers in psychology related fields. 

3.A Graduating students will be able to apply psychological principles in real-life settings.

3.B Graduating students will present or publish a paper in a professional setting.

3.C Graduating students are prepared for careers in their field.

3.D Psychology alumni were prepared for careers in their field.

Goal 4: Graduating seniors should be aware of and proficient in using psychological resources (information competency). 

4.A Graduating seniors will demonstrate a proficient use of psychological information resources.

Goal 5: Graduating seniors should be able to demonstrate critical thinking ability when discussing or writing about psychological issues. 

5.A Graduating seniors will be able to demonstrate critical thinking abilities to their instructor when discussing or writing about psychological issues.

Goal 6: Graduating seniors should be able to communicate effectively about the field of psychology in both an oral and written format. 

6.A Graduating seniors will be able to effectively present psychological information in oral format.

6.B Graduating seniors will be able to present psychological information in a written format.

Goal 7: Graduating seniors should be able to work effectively with other students and professionals in the field of psychology. 

7.A Students in psychology should be able to work effectively in groups with their fellow students.

7.B Graduating students will be able to apply psychological principles in real-life settings.

7.C Graduating students will present or publish a paper in a professional setting.

Goal 8: Graduating students should be able to apply ethical standards to support diverse groups of people. 

8.A Graduating students will be able to design and conduct research that meets current ethical standards for protection of research participants. 

8.B Graduating seniors will be able to apply knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice to the practice of psychology.
