Communication Skills: Dialogue Team Paper

This artifact required that I co-write a paper with Lisa and co-facilitate a dialogue with her as well. Co-writing this paper demonstrated my effective interpersonal and oral communication skills as well as my ability to work collegially with someone who held different identities. In this process, Lisa and I met several times to discuss our research topic and came to a consensus on multiracial student identity. Furthermore we challenged one another to think about how our target and agent identities intersected with this research topic. Overall I think this artifact is a product of our effective communication skills. As already mentioned there was a lot of consensus building and feedback given to one another to make sure that the finished paper was representative of us both. Additionally, with this artifact, we were required to co-facilitate a dialogue with our classmates. In order to accomplish this, Lisa and I worked to create a 'menu' of dialogue questions in order to maintain the dialogue. While facilitating the dialogue, both of us excised our facilitation skills by affirming our classmates and asked more directed questions to get a richer dialogue. As such, I think this artifact is also representative of my ability to facilitate effective intergroup relations. Throughout the dialogue, it necessary to make sure everyone’s voice was heard.  In sum, I think that this artifact is a great example of my ability to effectively communication – both with others and through writing.
