This is a brief review of the children’s math book I read to the class.
Title: Quack and Count
Author: Keith Baker
Publisher and Year: Harcourt Brace & Company; 1999
Intended Grade Level: 1st Grade
Summary of the story: 7 ducklings participate in various activities near a pond. There are always ducklings in 2 different sized groups, that always add together to make 7.
Math topics covered in the book: This book shows different numbers that when added together make 7. It is showing children what adding is. It also strengthens their recognition of numbers and groups.
My comments about the book: This book can appeal to children because it teaches addition within a great story. It lets children learn, but enjoy themselves at the same time. It can get them excited about adding and grouping numbers. The rhyming also makes the story more exciting.
