Indicator 7b

7b. The program maintains an atmosphere of mutual respect and high expectations for all learners.

Artifact 48 - example of performance criteria or rubric for project or unit

The rubric included is for the unit on pharmacology.  This is a challenging unit for all students, and as shown in the rubric, expectations are high.  Students are expected to discuss indications for use, contraindications, and possible side effects.

Artifact 49 - evidence of extra help offered before/after/during school

Due to serving five schools within 2 divisions which have different schedules, before and after school tutoring is difficult due to the students having to be on the buses in order to return to their home schools.  In order to address the need of some students to have more time viewing information/tables/pictures, etc. from class, lectures are presented in a power point format.  Those power points are then mailed upon request of a student or parent, or may be copied to a student’s flash drive.  Links to pertinent websites are included for students to further research a topic.  I monitor my email throughout the day in order to accommodate requests and questions as soon as possible.

During the school day, students are able to request help from the teacher, or from several student counselors who will meet with them to help them with their work.  If additional help is needed, counselors will contact student support services at the student’s home school for assistance.  Below are a few examples of emails sent to students requesting lecture material.

Good Afternoon,

I have tried to attach the horse PowerPoint as several students have requested it, unfortunately it is too large.  If students have a flash drive, they may bring it with them and I will copy it for them.  Please remind everyone to have their notebooks for the open notes test on cattle Friday.

Thanks,

Mrs. H

Artifact 50 - homework policy (program or school)

Homework assignments are worth 5% of the total nine week grading period.  Attached is also a copy of an agreement developed by the school for students who may have missed large quantities of work.  The teacher and the student work out a plan for allowing the student to make up missed work without falling behind on current assignments.
