Google Apps/Civic Engagement

This project was to work with a community member and create and design a website for them to use. I chose to help my employer, J Michael Shoes in Syracuse, create a website for information about the store events they host. J Michael's is a boutique located on the Syracuse University campus that sells designer clothes, shoes, and accessories. One shoe company they sell is called TOMS shoes. TOMS donates one pair of shoes for every pair they sell. Their moto is, "One for One". Blake Mycoskie, the founder of TOMS shoes, travels the world giving shoes to children who do not have any. TOMS hosts an annual worldwide event, "Day Without Shoes", for people to go barefoot all day. This is to bring awareness to others of the TOMS mission and the need for shoes for children all around the world. This year the event was on April 5th, and since this is still winter in upstate NY, J Michael's decided to host their own Day Without Shoes event later in the month on April 27th. The website I created and designed included information about the event for the public to see. Also, it allows for J Michael's to edit the page, updating it as more events are created and planned.

I learned a lot when planning this event, and creating this website. I found that google sites is a very convenient way to create a website. I was able to add pictures, links, and information in a easy to view and navigate website. The event I helped host was a success and I believe that John Vavalo, the owner of J Michaels, will continue to use Google sites.
