Student Learning Outcomes

Goal 1: Computer Science students will demonstrate proficiency in the areas of algorithmic problem solving, data structures, and software design and analysis.

1.A Students demonstrate proficiency in algorithmic problem solving using multiple programming languages.

1.B Students design and implement a software system by choosing appropriate algorithms and data structures so that the system meets space and time performance requirements.

1.C Students synthesize a new algorithm when no existing algorithm computes a problem’s required result.

1.D Students synthesize a new data structure when no existing data structure supports the needs required by a new algorithm.

1.E Students engineer software so that it functionally meets its specification, i.e., its requires and ensures clauses.

Goal 2: Computer Science students will work effectively in teams to design and implement solutions to computational problems and communicate effectively with a range of audiences using written, oral, and visual presentation skills.

2.A Students design and implement a functional software system for a computational problem using a software development lifecycle.

2.B Students work effectively in a group of 2-3 students.

2.C Students produce written and visual system requirement documents.

2.D Students present findings at a campus wide or university wide conference.

Goal 3: Computer Science Graduates will be successful professionals in the computer science industry or a closely-related discipline and/or be admitted to a graduate program in computer science or a closely-related discipline defined by the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) guidelines.

3.A Students use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for the practice of the discipline.

3.B Students identify the skills necessary to become a lifelong learner in the rapidly changing field of computer science.
