Context: This video was created for the CI 3750 class, Integrating Media and Technology, under the advisement of Mr. Jeff Goodman in the spring of 2007. Sarah Johnson, Courtney Cox, and Charity Dillard and I worked together to film and edit the video project. Impact: I feel that this project would be great to use with my students when I become a teacher. This project will give much freedom with student's choice because they will get to choose what book they want to use . Students may want to do a spoof of a popular show (real world), a parody of the book, or advertisement for their video. Students will begin by planning out their video by making story boards, which consist of the scenes and shots that the film will have. Students should also have a brief script and a list jobs/tasks for everyone. Next, students should begin to film their video going by the story boards and script. Afterwards the students will delete scenes they do not wish to use in their video. They will also edit the video using iMovie by adding transitions, music, effects, credits, and other tools/ resources to complete their video. At the end of the project, students will copy their movies from the computer then to DVD. I hope that this project will be engaging, fun, and educational for my students. I also think this project will help children be more creative and let that come out in the final project. And also students will learn alot about technology like how to properly use a cam corder (how to turn it on and off, film footage, record, rewind, fast forward, and play back). In this project I was involved in the planning by brainstorming for the idea, and then making the storyboard which notes the angles that are going to be used. I acted as a kid in the video. and helped in the editing process. Alignment: • This assignment meets the following NC DPI standards: Standard 1: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in English Language Arts and Literacy. Indicator 5: Teachers know and understand that reading is taught as a process of constructing meaning through the interaction of the reader's existing knowledge, the information suggested by the written language, and the context of the reading situation. I met this standard by having my students and their fellow group members relate a book they have read in or outside of class into a short movie or other type of filmed piece. This also allows students to be very creative by their book choice. This will show how much the students comprehend about the book they have read. |
Standard 6: Elementary teachers have an understanding of the basic concepts of the arts.
Indicator 1: Teachers understand the music vocabularies, materials, techniques, and thinking process of each arts discipline (art, music, theatre, dance).
Indicator 2: Teachers ahve an informed acquaintance with exemplary works of art from a variety of cultures and historical periods.
I met this standard by using techniques while completing this video making project . I used techinues like storybording to plan the project and using different camera angels while filming, I also acted in the movie and used editing techinues like fading transitions, adding music, cutting the scenes while making the video.
Standard 12: Working alone, or with arts speicalist teachers and/or other qualified arts progessionals, elemntray teachers are able to integrate the arts into the elementary curriculum
I met this standard by incoorperating the arts into a language arts/ technogoly assignment.
• This assignment met the following NETS-T Standards:
I: Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:
B. Demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
I met this standard by learning the skills on how to work a camcorder and how to use the program Imovie. I learned how to record different angles with the camcorder and I learned how to edit a video with the imovie program.
•VI : Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice.
A: model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.
I met this standard by using the release forms in both English and Spanish languages to parents that they have to sign so students have permission to be filmed.
B: Apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, charactersistics, and abilities.
I met this standard by using this project to reach a wide range of students. This project will empower diverse students because they will have a chance to take charge of their own work and help out with the planning, filming, and editing process.
•II :Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology.
A: design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
I met this standard by meeting the needs of the many different types of learners in my classroom by using different learning strategies to reach the students during this project. The students can watch my video and learn from it if they are visual learners to get an idea of the concept of the project. I will also have a list of directions for how to make the video for other types of learners. I will try to reach all types of learners in my classroom with use of different strategies.
E: plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology enhanced environment
I met this standard by having my own video for them to use as a guide or example while they work on their videos so they can see what elements their video/movie must have and how a finished project looks to compare their projects to.
D: manage student learning activities in a technology enhanced environment
I met this standard by making sure all students have equal and same amount of time at the computer as other students by rotating them every so often during the assignment. I will switch the students off by having them take turns at the computer every 15 minutes there is a new person at the computer. This will allow all students to experience the editing process of the project. I will need a camcorder and computer for each group.
