TITLE:  The Impact of Inclusion for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, General Education Students, and General Education Teachers: An Extensive Literature Review

ABSTRACT:  Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurological disorder that causes individuals to have impairments in three core areas: social interaction, communication, and restrictive and/or repetitive behaviors (Vakil, Welton, O’Connor & Kline, 2008). Currently, 1 in 59 children have this disorder in the United States (Data & Statistics on Autism Spectrum Disorder | CDC, n.d.). Students with ASD receive their education in different types of classroom settings. Many school districts promote inclusion, which is “a movement designed to reconstruct classes so that all children representing the range of diversity in our communities are welcome and provided with an appropriate, meaningful education” (Giangreco, Baumgart & Doyle, 1995, p. 274). This literature review will review the positive and negative impact on inclusion for students with ASD, general education students, and general education teachers.
