TITLE: Does the use of learning management software in classrooms create barriers for urban high school students given inequitable access to internet and technology at home? A Review of the Literature
ABSTRACT:
The Digital Inequality model (DiMaggio & Hargittai, 2001) was used as a framework to explore how elements of Digital Inequality could explain barriers to the use of learning management systems (LMS) beyond the traditional model of the Digital Divide. The framework attempted to collect research materials to answer the question: Does the use of learning management software in classrooms create barriers for urban high school students given inequitable access to internet and technology at home? In general, the use of LMS was seen to create a classroom environment where students could have inequitable experiences defined by their availability, access, support, and autonomy as it relates to technology such as LMS.
