Too Much Slack

horse-tying-010-Small.jpg

This horse is tied to a stable object, at the right level; however, he has too much slack in the rope. It is tempting to tie your horse with enough slack to be able to eat, but it is dangerous. The horse can get tangled and panic. He has too much room to move, if he pulls back. He can break free and possibly injure himself.

Tie your horse with about 18-20 inches of slack. He should be able to move his head slightly from side to side. He should be able to lower his head so that his neck is level with his back, but no lower.
