Learning Reflection Chapter 9

Polygons and Polyhedron

<FONT face="Times New Roman" color=#000066 size=4>What grade?

For this lesson I have created four activities:

«     Three for kindergarten

«     One for third-forth grade

<FONT face="Times New Roman" color=#000066 size=4>I've seen that shape before!

«     Kindergarten

«     In the front of the room I will have the actual objects

(The ones that are in color on the left)

«     A box

«     A basketball

«     An ice cream cone

«     A soda can

«     On the left side of the paper there are the mathematical names for the real life objects that are in the front of the room.

«     Students will cut out the shapes and place them in the correct cans at the front of the room in front of the object.

«     Kindergarten

«     This one has two pages to it.

«     The students will color the triangles on page 2 and cut them out

«     They will find out how the triangles fit on the large triangle on page one

«     Eight triangles fit in the large triangle

<FONT face="Times New Roman" color=#000066 size=4>Manipulative Triangles

«     Kindergarten

«     This one uses manipulatives.

«     Materials needed are the manipulative shapes:

«     Triangles

«     Rhombi

«     Trapezoids

«     Students are to create as many ways to cover each triangle using the different shapes provided.

«     Third- Forth grade

«     Materials

«     Playing grid

«     Two different colored pens, markers, or pencils

«     First player colors in any single small triangle of the playing grid.

«     Second player then colors in any other small triangle of the grid.

«     Players then alternate turns coloring in small triangles and may play anywhere on the grid.

«     The game ends when the grid is completely colored.
