Rationale

Rationale for Science Safety Survey

Content: I completed a science safety checklist in my Block II internship at Blue Ridge Elementary School. This science safety checklist was developed in my science block II class.

Impact: This impacts students by my knowing where things are located in case of emergency.  This can help save lives, and can help the students when there is an emergency or a crisis. The teacher needs to know where fire escape plans are, what the emergency code is, where first aid kits can be found, and the poison control number is located.  These things will help me be a better teacher, serve the students, and keep them safe.

Alignment:

I met Standard 17, indicator 1 by knowing the safety rules and escape plans and where the fire extinguishers are located.

I met Standard 17, indicator 2 by researching what chemicals are in the room and making sure they have a MSDS sheet on the chemicals.

I met Standard 17, indicator 3 by doing this science safety survey.  I have found the law code, and standard for this school.

I met Standard 17, indicator 4 by communicating with students about where the fire escape plan is located and which door they are suppose to go out. I have talked with the teachers and the administration about safety in the school.

I met Standard 17, indicator 5 by doing this survey.  I have found this could improve in my classroom and make it a safer place for the children.
